A quick snapshot of how my #Nanowrimo ended. I ended up taking a total break from any kind of writing from last Wednesday through the weekend. I wasn't just feeling burned out from all the writing (not just my novel, but all the writing I did for work), but my wrist and elbow were also in a lot of pain. Since work slowed down for the holiday I figured I should seize the chance to give my arm a rest. It's still not 100% pain free, but I'm back in the writer's seat today, ready to tackle another batch of freelance assignments and make some progress on this novel. . It's all cool, though. My number one goals for Nano were just to get back into a morning writing habit and get a good start on this draft, and I accomplished both, so I still win. . Happy December, y'all! I should be writing, but I'm really more in the mood to start pulling out Christmas decorations. I've already done two sprints today, resulting in about 1,100 words of new novel, but I need to try to double that. So two more sprints it is, and then we'll see if the decorating urge has passed. #amwriting #Nanowrimo #ishouldbewriting

Finally #amwriting my #Nanowrimo novel again. About to start the second of 6 planned sprints.

This has been pretty much my life lately - staying warm and taking the occasional break to go outside in between writing one freelance article after another. I'm grateful for the work, but I'm also grateful to be on the other side and have a bit of a respite, in which hopefully I can get back to my Nanowrimo novel. There's little hope of catching up on my word count, but if I can get this draft halfway written this month I'll consider it a win.

Good progress today! I finished the opening scene. Had to stop in the middle of a virtual word war with 5 minutes left on the clock because I'm not sure what scene comes next, but I went well over my word count for today, so that's all right. #amwriting #nanowrimo2019

Welp, it's official. I'm actually doing it this year, after skipping the last three. 1,800 words this morning and I'm off to a decent start. It feels good to be writing again. #amwriting #nanowrimo2019

I was planning to use #Nanowrimo to finish another WIP, but this morning I woke up with the conviction that I need to get the third and final Trilogy of the Damned book knocked out instead. Trouble is, I still don't know how I'm gonna wrap that saga up. So this morning I'm plotting. #amwriting #amplotting

Well hello there. . I had no intention of disappearing from this space for so long. It just sorta happened. . If I may get a little vulnerable and real for a minute, last spring I was really feeling burned out on the whole author thing. All the hustle involved in staying visible and trying to sell books was exhausting and stealing all the joy from my writing. I realized how badly I needed a break, so I just up and took one (I've been active over at my personal account @jean_of_the_hills, just not here). . All these months later, I'm just about done editing the novel I wrote last year and feeling ready to get back to writing again. But I'm still ambivalent about what's required in this day and age to be an author, and still feeling a little rebellious about that, determined to work at my own pace and content to let my work be stumbled upon by unsuspecting readers instead of shouting about it and chasing after fans. . At any rate, I'm ready to dip my toes back in the pool. I may even sign up for Nanowrimo. I've got some stuff coming out & giveaways I'll go ahead and share here because why not? But I won't go crazy or make myself crazy trying to work the numbers. . I guess all of this is to say, hi, I'm back! How are you? . 📸 @7percent.solution
